Travel Journal, Day 20: Home

I had a marvellous sleep at my friends’ house, and I managed to wake up at a reasonable time. I spent about an hour packing my bags to make sure nothing would be broken, and then I watched TV and had breakfast. At about 12pm we popped into the car and they dropped me off at Heathrow and told me I was welcome anytime, which made me smile (Mom, G says ‘hello’).

It took no time to get checked in and have the airline people take my backpack away (oh thank God, finally). Then I made my way through the rather confusing security checks and passport control desks until I got to the familiar moving sidewalks that lead to the departure gates.

Walking on the moving sidewalks I saw a petite blonde woman (shorter than me!) in front of me and I thought, “That’s Kristin Chenoweth.” There was nothing to indicate this to me – she’s cut her hair, so it’s not like I could have recognized her by her haircut – but somehow I knew it was her. So I just kept walking like everything was normal and then I looked: and it WAS her!

I said, “Sorry, but are you Kristin Chenoweth?” And she smiled and said she was. So I told her I’ve been a fan for a long time and that I was absolutely crushed when “Pushing Daisies” was cancelled. She told me that she’s still not over it, and she thanked me for following her career. She asked me if I was going to New York, too, but I told her I was off to Canada. So she wished me a good trip and I wished her the same, and she said, “Well thank you!” and she sounded just like Glinda (well obviously) and I almost died, but I smiled and kept on walking until I got to my gate and then I broke down into a fit of giggles. Delightful!

My flight was really nice. I was supposed to sit in the middle seat, but a couple were in my row and they wanted to sit together so I managed to get a window seat. Score! As per flight-home traditions, I had lots of wine, which made both “Bride Wars” and “Marley & Me” hilarious. So it was a great flight.

I got into Pearson International Airport a half hour late, thanks to bad winds and a malfunctioning airplane (not as serious as it sounds), but at least I got home. My mom picked me up at the airport, and I was really happy to see her. She took me out to The Keg for dinner, and by the time I got to the my steak I realized my trip was officially over.

I don’t miss England quite yet, but I know that will kick in soon. I stayed in a haunted mansion, I went out to sea, and I stood outside the Tardis. What a wonderful holiday!
